Everybody’s favourite potato headed ally Strax will be back in a new Big Finish adventure in which he’ll be joining forces with fellow Victorian investigators Jago and Litefoot.
It has been announced that a special double-disc release, Jago & Litefoot & Strax, will go on sale in November as the Sontaran suffers a disorienting attack and mistakes Jago and Litefoot, who first appeared in the Fourth Doctor’s 1977 serial The Talons of Weng-Chiang, for Jenny and Vastra.
The original audio has been written by Justin Richards.
“It’s a true testament to the great Robert Holmes that Jago and Litefoot have remained so popular,” said producer David Richardson. “It is a joy to have them set foot in the world of current TV Doctor Who as they team up with Strax for a special investigation. The script is superb, packed with excitement and wit, and it’s so funny to see such a mis-matched trio!”

New rumours have surfaced this week claiming that Doctor Who will be taking another “hiatus” next year.
According to the speculation, as reported in the current affairs magazine Private Eye, Steven Moffat has instead decided to concentrate his creative energies on his other hit BBC show, Sherlock, which means that the Time Lord will be going on a break with no full series due to air in 2016. It wouldn’t be the first time the show has had a gap year; 4 episodes were aired in 2009 to accommodate its behind the scenes overhaul which saw Steven replacing Russell T Davies as showrunner.
While the BBC have refused to comment on the developments, it is already being theorised that Steven will bow out from his head writing duties after a final year of sporadic specials. He recently confirmed that he’s signed on to oversee the show for at least one more year.
As always, treat it with a pinch of salt for now. We’ll cross this bridge if/when we get to it…

Reece Shearsmith has been announced as the latest guest star who will be appearing in Series 9.
The award winning writer, actor and comedian will be sharing the screen with Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman in a “special episode” which has been written by Mark Gatiss. Most famous for his work on The League Of Gentlemen, Doctor Who fans will recognise him for his portrayal of Second Doctor Patrick Troughton in the 2013 drama An Adventure in Space and Time. Details regarding his latest role are scarce, although he’s described it as “a badge of honour”.
“Mark Gatiss has written a fantastic role for me in a very scary episode,” he added. “It is so exciting to be part of a very singular episode – which I can say with authority, will be unlike any previous episode of Doctor Who you’ve seen! It’s just a joy to play a part in the show.”
Mark Gatiss continued: “I’m delighted to be writing for Peter and Jenna once again and so excited about this particular story. It’s been brewing in the dark recesses of my mind for a while! I’m also chuffed to finally welcome Reece. He has been badgering me for ten years!”
Are you excited to see Reece in Series 9? What sort of character do you think he’ll be in it?

Steven Moffat has dropped some intriguing hints about Maisie Williams’ “significant role” in Series 9 – by revealing nothing about who she’ll be playing. Classic, Moff!
Speaking at the Television Critics Association’s press tour, the showrunner remained tightlipped about the Game of Thrones star’s involvement in the upcoming series, revealing only that it’s “a clever idea” and one we won’t see coming. “It’s a great part and she’s terrific in it,” he affirmed. “All I will say is that she’s not playing a returning character. She is someone brand new and not a character from the Doctor’s past.”
So, there goes our generic River Song theory! Who do YOU think she’ll be playing? Discuss!
