BBC Worldwide have today confirmed that they are teaming up with independent game developer Three Rings to create the first ever online multiplayer Doctor Who game!
The game, entitled Worlds in Time, will launch later in the year, and will be free to play all around the world, with fans entering the TARDIS to be set a “pulse-pounding” challenge by the Doctor. Players will help him “defend civilized culture against infamous enemies”, exploring new worlds and encountering many alien races along the way.
Players will be able to socialise during the game, building up a global community of fans.
“Worlds in Time will be a free-to-play multiplayer online game that invites players to save the universe by using their wits to solve time-bending puzzles,” explained Robert Nashak, EVP of Digital Entertainment at BBC Worldwide. ”Three Rings is the ideal team for this groundbreaking creative partnership. Not only are they visionaries in the online gaming space, they are lifelong Doctor Who fans with a passion for delivering the level of quality that our players will expect and deserve.”
Daniel James, CEO Three Rings, added: “Our goal with Worlds in Time is to capture the imaginative spirit and depth of the series, whilst being fun and easy to play for all ages.”
