Caroline says Neil brings “new twist” to Cybermen
Caroline Skinner has teased Neil Gaiman has “a new twist” for the Cybermen upon their return in the new series.
The Doctor’s iconic foes, last seen in Closing Time (2011), will be back and “deadlier” than ever in the episode, which has the working title of The Last Cyberman.
Speaking in the latest issue of SFX on sale today, Caroline reveals their comeback will offer fans “a new way of looking at them” and says their updated look is “very creepy”.
She explained: “What Neil’s done in the episode is use this notion of being able to write the Doctor in conflict with the Cybermen in a new way, so it is a huge episode for Matt.”
The executive producer added that the acclaimed writer – whose last contribution to the series was the Hugo Award winning The Doctor’s Wife – has included something for everyone in the episode. “He always delivers wonderful visual sequences,” she praised, “and one of his other real strengths is that he gets right to the heart of the characters.”
Doctor Who will return to BBC One on Saturday 30th March in The Bells of St John.
