All good things must come to an end and, in true Doctor Who fashion, the latest series reached its dramatic climax last weekend in a momemtous two-part extravaganza which sent the Whovian community into overdrive.
Before the Doctor and Clara faced an impossible choice at the hands of evil mastermind Missy (see what we did there?), they found themselves In the Forest of the Night as acclaimed writer Frank Cottrell Boyce made his Doctor Who debut in an adventure which marked the final days of humanity. Or so we thought, anyway!
Next up, as the finale began, the Doctor and Clara found themselves in Dark Water when plans were drawn up in the Nethersphere. Clara faced heartbreak and the Doctor finally came face to face with Missy as a catastrophic cliffhanger sent mighty shockwaves through the stratosphere. With Cybermen on the streets of London, the drama was notched up to a whole new level and old friends united against old enemies as our heroes faced Death in Heaven. As the Twelfth Doctor battled his greatest challenge, sacrifices had to be made…

A considerable rise from its initial ‘overnight’ of 5.3 million, the consolidated figure accounts for those who watched the episode within the first 7 days of its transmission.

The latest series of Doctor Who continued tonight as the final days of humanity arrived…
In this weekend’s episode, written by Frank Cottrell Boyce, the residents of Planet Earth woke to face their most surprising invasion yet when, in every city and town, a mysterious and magical forest grew overnight. It was the start of a fairytale rooted in danger and, as always, it was down to the Doctor, with the help of some school children, to save the day.
Typically with Doctor Who, though, the invasion of the trees served as the seed of a much deeper story as, amidst the chaos, Danny Pink was reunited with his favourite Time Lord and we were shown a hint of what’s to come. Meanwhile, it transpired that the fate of the world lay in the mind of one of Clara’s pupils. Was the Tree Age over before it had begun?
So, what did you make of tonight’s mystical tale? Is it destined to become a tree-mendious classic, or was the show barking up the wrong tree? Your views would really help to spruce up the comments section below, and don’t forget to rate it too! Tiger, tiger, burning bright…
