River Song will be returning to the Doctor Who universe next year when she stars in not one but two Big Finish audios.
First up, the popular character – who made her debut in the Series 4 two-parter Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead – will join forces with the Eighth Doctor in the second chapter of Doom Coalition which also features the voice of Hattie Morahan as companion Helen Sinclair. After that, she’ll reclaim the spotlight in her very own original adventure, The Diary of River Song, with Paul McGann reprising his role as the Time Lord for the fourth and final installment.
“The idea of River meeting previous Doctors was first put forward by Steven Moffat,” David Richardson, producer, said. “It was just irresistible. And yes, we’re still pinching ourselves!”
Meanwhile, Ian McNiece will K.B.O as he steps back into the shoes of Britain’s former Prime Minister in The Churchill Years, co-starring Danny Horn as Kazran Sardick from the 2010 seasonal special A Christmas Carol, and Doctors 5 through to 8 will battle a new generation of adversaries in ‘Classic Doctors, New Monsters‘, described as “the ultimate mash-up”.
The four boxsets will be released throughout 2016 and are now available to pre-order. Are you excited about this news, and which audio adventure are you most looking forward to?
BBC Worldwide has reassured disappointed Doctor Who fans that more Classic Series DVDs are in the pipeline.
Their clarification comes after the recent news regarding the release of the Second Doctor’s 1967 serial The Underwater Menace, which has unfortunately been cancelled due to financial problems with the company providing the animated reconstructions of its two missing episodes. In response to the upset, they’ve tweeted to affirm that they’re “hoping” to extend their collection of the Doctor’s pre-2005 adventures by making other serials available in the foreseeable future.
Are you bothered about The Underwater Menace? Which serials should get a DVD release?
As we previously revealed, the event will be held in London from 13th-15th November 2015 before heading down under to continue the festivities on 21st and 22nd November. The Twelfth Doctor himself, Peter Capaldi, will be in attendance alongside showrunner Steven Moffat as well as a host of other cast members who are yet to be announced. Fans will also get to meet the writers, get up close and personal with their favourite monsters and explore behind the scenes.
It will take place at the Royal Hall of Industries and Hordern Pavilion and tickets will go on sale on 6th July 2015 at 11am, priced at $195 (general adult), $99 (general concession), $365 (TARDIS adult) and $265 (TARDIS concession). Visit the website for more info, here.

Ingrid Oliver has revealed that she’s still overwhelmed by the fandom’s rapturous reaction to her Doctor Who alter ego.
The actress and comedian made her debut as UNIT scientist Osgood in the 50th anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor, before returning – and subsequently dying – in last year’s Series 8 finale, Death in Heaven. “When I died, I was like ‘Oh. That’s a shame’,” she told the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine, on sale today. “I made the decision to go out, and then I got a text from my agent saying, ‘You’re trending on Twitter!’ It was absolute insanity to me.”
Death is not in an option in Doctor Who, of course, as she’ll be back alongside the Zygons in Series 9. She will also join Jemma Redgrave in Big Finish’s forthcoming UNIT spin off.
Are you a fan of Osgood, and are you glad to see her again? Let us know in the comments!
To coincide with the release of their new movie, the Minions invaded the TARDIS earlier this week with a little help from Greg James.
The Radio 1 presenter was enlisted by The One Show’s Alex Jones to keep his eye on the pesky creatures but it all got out of hand as soon as they stepped aboard the Doctor’s iconic blue box. Serves him right for keeping the door unlocked!
Find out what happened next in the player below. Suffice to say, it all escalates very quickly…

The latest Doctor Who Magazine goes on sale later this week and the cover features a familiar face as the issue looks ahead to her return in the new series.
Osgood will be reunited with the Doctor in Episodes 7 and 8 of Series 9, a Zygon two-parter written by Peter Harness, and her involvement is particularly intriguing because the character was controversially killed off by Missy at the end of the last series. Anything can happen in Doctor Who, of course, and her real life alter ego Ingrid Oliver has spilled the beans about what fans can expect from her third comeback.
Also inside, the show’s resident special effects genius Danny Hargreaves reveals the tricks of the trade plus there’s all the latest news, reviews, interviews, competitions and more…
Doctor Who Magazine Issue #488 is published this Thursday (25th June), priced at £4.99.

Michelle Gomez has revealed that fans can expect Missy to be “very naughty” in the new series of Doctor Who.
The actress will be reprising her role as the renegade Time Lady for the Series 9 two-part premiere, The Magician’s Apprentice and The Witch’s Familiar, and recently told the Daily Record that even she “was a bit shocked at her level of disdain”. “She has no boundaries that girl,” she teased. “Obviously I can’t tell you much, because I’m too much of a fan of the show to spoil the fun, but I can tell you that she’s up to no good.”
The character has been a huge hit with fans since she was introduced at the end of Series 8, so much so that she’s getting her own action figure which will be released soon. Michelle said: “The doll is on order. I’ve seen the prototype, which was a surreal day. She’s a funny looking thing. It’s exciting to be an action figure. Not bad going for a lady of a certain age.”

It only feels like yesterday that we were accompanying the Doctor and Clara on their festive escapade in the North Pole so it’s hard to believe that it’s actually been 6 whole months since we last saw our honourable heroes in action.
Fear not, though, because their latest string of adventures is slowly but surely approaching which means that there are 12 brand spankin’ new adventures just around the corner. Where is a TARDIS when you need one?! They are a-comin’, though, and from what we’ve been told about Series 9 thus far, it looks set to the biggest and best yet.
There will be more Missy, for starters, as everyone’s favourite renegade Time Lady will be back with an almighty vengeance in the two-part opener, The Magician’s Apprentice and The Witch’s Familiar, which has been billed as the show’s “darkest plot ever”. Further scares lie in wait in Toby Whithouse’s terrifying two-parter before the Doctor is challenged by the mysterious Maisie Williams in The Girl Who Died and The Woman Who Lived. If all of that wasn’t enough to get excited about, Osgood will be returning with the Zygons and Kate Stewart will be popping up a couple of times too, since it’d be rude for her not to.
That’s just the tip of the timey-wimey iceberg but as always it would literally be impossible to predict what else the Doctor and Clara will be facing when they burst back onto our telly boxes this autumn. The endless plethora of possibilities has never stopped us speculating before, of course, and it’s about time we opened a discussion for you to share all of your weird and wonderful theories. So, what are your biggest hopes and wishes for Series 9? What should happen? What shouldn’t happen? Whatever you’ve got to say, here’s the place to say it. It’ll always be open for you, too, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so don’t worry if it’s 3am and you’ve a tantalising theory (or five!) to get off your chest. You are not alone.

BBC America has aired a (very) short but sweet Doctor Who teaser to raise early anticipation for the upcoming series.
Although it contains no new footage from Series 9 and, like, no footage whatsoever, it’s still enough to get us excited as it features a sweeping shot of the TARDIS in all its glory before affirming that the blue box will be back in business this fall.
The premiere date for the Twelfth Doctor’s second string of adventures is yet to be confirmed, but it is widely expected to begin airing in September. And it’ll be about time, too!
