next-time-the-zygon-inversion

This week it was The Zygon Invasion, next week it’s The Zygon Inversion. What could possibly go wrong?

Well, quite a bit, as it turns out, because after that cliffhanger (we’re still not over it!), shapeshifting Zygons are everywhere in the UK. With UNIT neutralised, only the Doctor stands in their way. But how do you stop a war? And what can the Doctor do to save his friends?

The Zygon Inversion airs on Saturday 7th November at the earlier time of 8pm on BBC One.

The Zygons, a race of shapeshifting aliens, have been living in secret among us on Earth, unknown and unseen – until now! When Osgood is kidnapped by a rogue gang of Zygons, the Doctor, Clara and UNIT must scatter across the world in a bid to set her free. But will they reach her in time, and can they stop an uprising before it’s too late?

We’re halfway through Series 9 but, if tonight’s episode is anything to go by, the drama is only just getting started. The Zygons were back with a vengeance… and Osgood was, too!

First introduced in the 1975 Fourth Doctor serial Terror of the Zygons (see what they did there?), the malevolent monsters made their 21st century debut in the 50th anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor, which left all of us wondering how long it would take for them to show their faces again. Not very, as it turns out, as they returned to wreak more havoc for our heroes with UNIT caught right in the middle. To be honest, UNIT usually are.

The return of everybody’s favourite military organisation also marked the unexpected but anticipated comeback of Osgood, played by Ingrid Oliver, who was back to fight another day despite the fact she was mercilessly killed at the end of the last series. Classic Doctor Who. With twists, turns and a spectacular cliffhanger to boot, we just about survived The Zygon Invasion, so what did you think of the episode in question? Was it an enthralling escapade from start to end, or are you having trouble getting your head around its shape-shifting shenanigans? It’s Hallowe’en, but did Doctor Who deliver us a trick or a treat…?

whatever-happened-to-osgood

Series 9 continues tonight and there’s a familiar foe coming to town as the Doctor and Clara prepare to face The Zygon Invasion.

Amidst the shape-shifting shenanigans, however, there’s also a great mystery afoot. The episode will also mark the return of UNIT, fronted, as ever, by Kate Stewart herself, who will also be joined by her amicable associate Osgood, which is where things get really interesting. That’s because it hasn’t even been a year since she was sensationally killed off by Missy, so how has she died and lived to tell the tale?

There are a manner of explanations, of course, but we’ll probably all be proven wrong. The Seventh Doctor-esque question marks on her lapel are apt, though, as her unexpected yet anticipated comeback has been one of the biggest surprises of the year. But whatever did happen to Osgood? Share your last minute theories by voting and commenting below! The answers – and probably more questions – will be revealed tonight at 8:15pm on BBC One.

new-tenth-doctor-donna-audios-announced

One of the most popular Doctor Who partnerships of all time will be reuniting for a new range of original audio adventures, it was confirmed today (Monday).

The Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble, as played by David Tennant and Catherine Tate, will step back aboard the TARDIS in Big Finish’s new Tenth Doctor Adventures Technophobia by Matt Fitton, Time Reaver by Jenny T Colgan and Death and the Queen by James Goss – which will be released in May 2016, priced at £10.99 (CD)/£8.99 (download) each.

The dynamic duo first shared the screen in the 2006 Christmas Special, The Runaway Bride, before the temp from Chiswick returned as his full time companion in Series 4. Are you excited they will be back together again, in audio form? Let us know in the comments!

series-9-part-1-what-did-you-think

The Twelfth Doctor encountered The Woman Who Lived last night which means that we’re now officially halfway through his second string of universal escapades.

It all kicked off in September in The Magician’s Apprentice and The Witch’s Familiar, hailed as the show’s “darkest plot ever”, which marked the grand return of not one but three iconic villains as Missy, Davros and the Daleks shared the screen to give the Doctor a cataclysmic blast from the past. Watch out, Davros, because Missy will scratch your eyes out! Oh, but first she’s going to need eight snipers.

Next up, our heroes journeyed Under the Lake for one of their most terrifying adventures to date and the truth behind the impossible threat was uncovered Before the Flood when the fearsome warlord, Fisher King, set in motion a twisted plan to ensure his own survival.

Last but certainly not least, one of the most anticipated stories of the year – The Girl Who Died – introduced us to the seemingly ordinary Viking girl Ashildr, as played by Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams, whose story has seemingly only just begun. She’s watching…

So, there we have it! Six weeks into Series 9 and it’s safe to say that it’s been non stop drama since day one. There’s still lots to look forward to, of course, including the return of the Zygons next week and Clara’s unfortunate but inevitable departure, but for now let us reflect on Series 9: Part 1 and all of the shocks, surprises and sonic sunglasses that have come with it. Has it been a case of time flying because you’re having fun, or are you glad to be halfway out of the dark? Let us know by voting in the poll and commenting below…

We're now halfway through this year's series. What have been your thoughts so far?

peter-signs-up-for-at-least-one-more-series

Nobody quite knows for sure what the future of Doctor Who will hold beyond Series 9 but another rumour has surfaced this weekend to suggest that Peter Capaldi is here to stay. Well, for “one more series”, at least!

According to the Mirror (we know, but just go with it!), the Twelfth Doctor actor has already committed to Series 10 which, according to a separate recent report, won’t actually air until 2017. It’s been heavily speculated that the show will be put on another “gap year” in 2016 with only a handful of specials to tide fans over until its full time return.

Another day, another tabloid tidbit, but let us know your take on the latest developments in the comments below. It’s by no means official and, of course, time will tell. It always does.

next-time-the-zygon-invasion

It’s out with the new and in with the old next week as we bid farewell to Ashildr (but for how long?) to welcome back one of the most iconic foes in Doctor Who history.

The Zygons will be back with an almighty vengeance as Series 9 continues but their shape-shifting shenanigans won’t be the only cause for confusion. Osgood, who was killed off in Series 8, is also back, but who can be trusted?

The Zygon Invasion airs on BBC One on Saturday 31st October at the slightly earlier time of 8:15pm.

England, 1651. The deadly Highwayman ‘The Nightmare’ and his sidekick stalk the dark streets of London. But when they find loot that’s not of this world, they come face to face with the Doctor. Who is the Nightmare in league with? And can the Doctor avoid the hangman’s noose and protect Earth from a devilish betrayal?

Series 9 reached its halfway point tonight but the drama showed no signs of slowing down as Maisie Williams returned once again to challenge the Doctor in unexpected ways. When they told us she was “cosmic”, they meant it! But this time, who was she in league with?

Fresh (give or take, like, eight hundred years!) from her debut in The Girl Who Died, the Game of Thrones star was back with an almighty vengeance in the appropriately titled The Woman Who Lived, only this week there wasn’t a Viking in sight… More’s the pity. That’s because the action was now taking place in London in 1651 where a deadly Highwayman stalked the streets as the Doctor found himself in a race against time to protect planet Earth from a devilish betrayal. So it was just another day in the office for our Time Lord!

Ashildr has certainly been driving you all into a fevered frenzy since her entrance last week (as a matter of fact, at the time of writing, 19% of you are still adamant that she’s River Song!), but was the continuation of her story as enjoyable as her inception? Let us know what you thought of tonight’s episode, its shocks, guest stars and everything and anything else in between, by voting, rating and commenting below. Happy discussing, Whovians!

charity-gala-offering-tea-with-jenna-coleman

Every Doctor Who devotee across the land has no doubt dreamt about having tea with Jenna Coleman and one lucky fan will be able to do just that!

In addition, they’ll be helping to rebuild the lives of children whose worlds are threatened by disease, conflict or disability, which is pretty much as important as causes get, as the once in a lifetime meet and greet with the Clara Oswald actress is one of the prizes that’s up for grabs at One to One Children Fund’s upcoming gala, Stardust, on 1st November 2015 at Banqueting House in Whitehall.

Attendees will gather to out bid each other for the chance to spend an afternoon with the popular companion and event organisers have contacted WhovianNet to very kindly offer discounted gala tickets – at the special price of £95 - to the first 20 Doctor Who fans who email [email protected] to register their interest. Don’t miss out, folks!

The popular Doctor Who star is an Ambassador for the charity and last year she travelled to Port Elizabeth in South Africa to see first hand how your generous donations are helping to relieve the suffering of younger people in the most under resourced areas of the world.

Thanks to One to One Children’s Fund.
