OFFICIAL: Jodie Whittaker announced as the Thirteenth Doctor
After months of speculation, Jodie Whittaker has been announced as the Thirteenth Doctor in Doctor Who.
As the first female to officially (sorry, Joanna Lumley!) portray the iconic role, the actress will make her debut as the Time Lord in this year’s Christmas Special.
She said: “I’m beyond excited to begin this epic journey with every Whovian on the planet. It’s more than an honour which means remembering everyone I used to be, while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope.”
Her era will be overseen by incoming showrunner Chris Chibnall, who she has previously worked with on his ITV drama Broadchurch. Chris has described Jodie as his “number one choice”, adding: “I always knew I wanted the next Doctor to be a woman. Jodie’s audition blew us all away. Jodie is an in-demand, funny, inspiring, super-smart force of nature and she will bring wit, strength and warmth to the role. The Thirteenth Doctor is on her way.”

Peter Capaldi, who will be handing over the TARDIS keys to Jodie in the festive adventure, commented: “Anyone who’s seen Jodie Whittaker’s work will know that she’s a wonderful actress of great individuality. Above all, she has the huge heart to play this special part.”

Hello……….I’m a newbie………teach me……….Plz……….
I hate a female Doctor. I am never watching the show anymore.
Having watched Dr Who since the very first episode I will not be watching the latest series. This is political correctness gone mad. Yes I am female and no I don’t want to see a female Doctor I want to see a male Doctor. Get back to basics and get Dr Who back on track
didn`t` much like the first episode, but was giving it a chance, half way through the second episode, switched it off. Cant believe that there is nothing what so ever endearing about a single character.A blonde Time Lord from bloody Yorkshire, its all just so implausible, not watching any more. Well done the cretins at the BBC .
Just got around to seeing this on Amazon and it’s an extremely interesting show. Some growing pains yes but by episode 4 I didn’t care if the Doctor was female! It was fresh and new! The episode with Rosa Parks was so powerful I beg old friends to give this a chance! One season is all I ask! I think it might be worth it!
What is happening to this show. Always looked forward to it but the story lines are bizarre. Watched this from day one with William Hartnell. Watched since it started, yes had it`s ups and downs, but where are these writers coming from. Will give it one more go then off.
I acctually like the new doctor who! It gives a whole new perspective of how people think when they hear “Doctor who”! I think it was also a matter of time before the public would start raving on about having a female doctor anyway so…
