The director of Series 8’s finale has responded to complaints regarding its US cinema screenings.
It’s been confirmed that Dark Water and Death in Heaven will be shown on the big screen in 3D in over 700 theaters across America as part of a special one-off event to coincide with the Series 9 premiere in September. However, the BBC received inevitable criticism when they later affirmed that they won’t be hosting similar screenings in the UK. “I saw a lot of disappointed comments,” Rachel Talaley has posted on Tumblr. “So I asked this question in the office today.”
She elaborated: “I was told that the cinemas are the problem. The BBC would love to show it but the few screens that have Dolby Atmos did not ask for it. Fan requests to UGC and/or IMAX might have an effect, but the USA has enjoyed growing success with event cinema.”

Big Finish has today (16th July) confirmed that Ianto Jones will be returning in one of their new Torchwood adventures.
In May it was announced that the popular spin off – which has been “in limbo” since its fourth series, Miracle Day, was met with mixed reviews in 2011 – would be back in the form of a new range of original audio dramas, launching with The Conspiracy in September 2015.
The second installment, Fall to Earth, will follow in October and will be led by Gareth David-Lloyd.
“Well, how could we not?” said producer James Goss. “Ianto is a brilliant character. If we kept people on tenterhooks any longer, we’d be fools. He’s in it… and as soon as possible!”
Ianto was introduced in Series 1 and became an instant fan favourite, so much so that his shock death in Series 3 inspired his devotees to erect a special commemorative memorial in Cardiff Bay, which is still standing today. Read WhovianNet’s interview with Gareth here.

The BBC has released a handful of images from the new Series 9 trailer to give fans a closer look at what lies in store.
The preview was debuted online shortly after its premiere at yesterday’s Comic-Con panel where it was also confirmed that the series will begin on BBC One on Saturday 19th September 2015.
The teaser includes a host of intriguing clips, such as a shot of Clara in space, Missy and a Dalek. Check out some stills below and let us know what you can deduce…
Above – Knock, knock… Clara is hiding from something – but she’s used to that by now!
Above – What’s Clara up to now?! We wouldn’t want to be in her space boots, would you?
Above - Why so serious, Clara? Maybe the Doctor’s asked her to blow up the Moon. Again.
Above – Is there something on my face? One of the new foes we’ll be meeting in Series 9.
Above – Well, we wouldn’t want to bump into this guy in a dark alley. Or anywhere, really.
Above – Need a hand? Anyone else getting flashbacks to the Tom Baker era, circa 1976…?
Above – Missy is back and this time she will “surprise everyone”. Which is so unlike her.
Above – “Look into my eyes…” The Doctor wears sunglasses now. Sunglasses are cool.
Above – “What took you so long, old man?” Maisie Williams plays a “cosmic” character.
