A new month is kicked off with a celebration, as we ask you to join us in raising our glasses and wishing Elisabeth Sladen a very happy birthday!

We all know Sladen as the one and only Miss Sarah Jane Smith, who was originally introduced to the Whoniverse as a companion to the Third and Fourth Doctors from 1973 through to 1976.

She returned in Series 2’s School Reunion in 2006, and then again in Series 4’s The Stolen Earth/Journey’s End, and she was briefly seen on New Year’s Day in The End of Time, Part Two. And, of course, for the past 3 years she has been entertaining a whole new generation in her very own CBBC series, The Sarah Jane Adventures!

Lis is celebrating her 62nd birthday, and we hope she has a marvellous day!

Gillan previously appeared as a soothsayer in the Series 4 story, The Fires of Pompeii, and you may also recognise her from Channel 4’s The Kevin Bishop Show, or her modelling work.

Today is a very important day on the Doctor Who calendar, and that is for one very simple reason! On this Winter day 46 years ago, back in 1963, the first ever episode, An Unearthly Child, aired on BBC One, and the nation was introduced to that mysterious little Time Lord and his spectacular blue box. And their thrilling adventures have been captivating generations ever since!

And after over 750 episodes and 200 stories, 10 Doctors, 50+ companions, and countless other friends and foes, the best programme in the Universe is still going as strong as ever today, as fans twiddle their thumbs in anticipation for the long-awaited regeneration of the Tenth Doctor this Christmas, as well as the introduction of Matt Smith as the incoming Eleventh!

So, as we look back over the past four decades, it’s time to get nostalgic! We want to know how Doctor Who has changed YOUR life! How did you find the series? What was your first reaction? Please join us in sending out your birthday best to actress Naoko Mori, who Torchwood fans will recognise for her portrayal of Toshiko Sato in Series 1 and 2 of Torchwood!

We were first introduced to the character in Series 1 of Doctor Who, Aliens of London, in 2005, but she was brought back as a Torchwood team member when the spin off launched in 2006. Toshiko was killed at the end of the second series, and it definitely hasn’t been the same since!

Matt is celebrating his 27th birthday today, and is spending the day in South Wales filming the next series alongside Karen Gillan, who will be playing the Doctor’s companion, Amy Pond.

Matt’s casting in the iconic role was revealed back in January, and since then we’ve slowly but surely been treated to some tantalizing tidbits regarding his first series, including his costume and the new-look TARDIS and logo!
