It’s the last day of June (already!?) so there is just enough time to reveal this month’s Fan of the Month!
Taking the latest title and flying the Whovian flag is Tommy, aged 11, from Spain. While he hasn’t been watching Doctor Who for long, he credits the series for making his life more adventurous. He is looking forward to learning more about his new favourite show ahead of the 50th anniversary.
Congratulations Tommy and thank you to everyone else who’ve put themselves forward this month, and guess what? We’ll be doing it all over again in July, so stay tuned for all the entry details. In the meantime you can show off your merchandise and/or fan art!

Caroline Skinner has reassured fans that Series 7 will live up to expectations as there is an “explosive” first episode on the way to us in the autumn.
There is set to be one almighty bang to launch the series, as its opening episode – named this week as Asylum of the Daleks – will feature EVERY Dalek featured throughout the show’s history. Not only that, but it is foretold that they will be “worse than ever” – what will they be up to this time? We dread to think. Rather the Doctor than us, though!
“It’s an epic Dalek adventure that kicks off the new series in explosive style,” Caroline teased. “If you think you know all there is to know about the Daleks, then think again…”
The episode is screened at the BFI in London in August – tickets go on sale next month.

David Warner’s been confirmed for a guest role in the new series of Doctor Who.
The actor – who is recognised for his parts in Titanic, Avatar and Star Trek – will appear in the second half of Series 7, which is currently being filmed and will be aired in 2013.
He is no stranger to the worlds of Doctor Who – in 2009 he provided the voice of Lord Azlok in Dreamland, the Tenth Doctor’s animated adventure written by Phil Ford.

BBC Worldwide’s teamed up with The Wand Company to develop a remote control replica of the sonic screwdriver!
The device has got the Doctor out of many a sticky situation over the years, but now fans will be able to use it to control their TVs, iPod docks and DVD players, it’s been reported.
Based on the Eleventh Doctor’s screwdriver, the remote will be compatible with various entertainment systems, as it will be able to store up to 39 infrared remote codes.
Fiona Eastwood, BBC Worldwide Consumer Products, commented: “Doctor Who is one of our key brands so we are very excited about working with The Wand Company. Not only will the Sonic Screwdriver look great, it’ll also boast a range of functions and features.”
“Since we launched our first wand, Doctor Who fans all over the world have been asking us to create a remote control Sonic,” The Wand Company’s co-founder, Chris Barnardo, added. “We are thrilled to be working with BBC Worldwide to bring it to the market. Our Sonic Screwdriver will look authentic and it will control electronic devices around the home. We’re sure Doctor Who fans will be as excited as us about this new Screwdriver.”

It’s not all about the past though, as there’s the latest news on Series 7, including updates on the 2013 episodes, which will star Jenna-Louise Coleman as the new companion.
Speaking of the new companion, casting director Andy Pryor explains what it takes to find somebody with star quality.
Meanwhile, writer Robert Shearman gets chatting about his classic 2005 episode, Dalek.
Doctor Who Magazine #449 is published tomorrow (Thursday). Will you be picking it up?
In a recent interview with BBC Radio 5 live he spoke very highly of the series and praised current Doctor Matt Smith’s portrayal of the iconic Time Lord.
“It was an honour to be part of that show, absolutely,” he said. “And I’m so happy that everyone is now seeing Matt Smith for the incredible actor and Doctor that he is. I’m so proud of him because he’s being put to fantastic use and giving many people much joy.”
“I am sure if I was going to be there I’d already know about it,” he explained. “But I am not chasing it or begging for it. If they called me then I’m sure there’d be a conversation.”
Clarke – who has previously admitted he feels he initally played Mickey “quite badly” – went on to share his high hopes for the series next year. He said: “I love what Matt brings and I’m sure the 50th anniversary will be no holds barred. I’m sure it’ll be great.”
Naturally there’s been lots of speculation about which familiar faces from the past will be making a comeback during 2013 – Freema Agyeman, David Tennant, Tom Baker, Paul McGann and John Barrowman have all discussed a potential return. Matt Smith has promised that the series is set to enter its landmark year with “all guns blazing”…
