DigitalSpy have released a Q&A with Meera Syal, who appears as Dr. Nasreen Chaudry in the forthcoming two-parter, The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood. During the interview, the actress discusses the return of the Silurians.

“What’s great about them is that they’re not black and white baddies, they’re actually a highly intelligent and evolved race, who have technology way beyond the humans in many aspects,” she said. “However, they feel quite possessive about the Earth because they were there first.”

She continued: ”I think they’re scary enough for the little kids to get really scared, but then they’re also sort of interesting and multi-layered enough to just get to like them as characters, because they are distinctive characters. It’s not like the Cybermen, they are all really individual. And the humans behave pretty badly in this as well, so it’s a very equal argument, and there is a point where you think, this could go either way.”
